The Hellenic Parliament occupies the Old Royal Palace on Syntagma Square in central Athens, a stern neoclassical building completed in 1843 as a residence for the first king of modern Greece. Converted to legislative use in the twentieth century, it faces the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where kilted evzone guards perform their ceremonial changing of the guard. The building's austere ochre facade overlooks the square that has hosted many pivotal moments in Greek history, and the guard ceremony draws crowds throughout the day.
