The seat of Slovenia's National Assembly is a mid-twentieth-century building notable for its extraordinary sculpted portal. A dense frieze of nude figures carved in stone frames the entrance, depicting workers, mothers, and citizens in an idealised vision of the nation. Behind the doorway, the modernist structure houses the debating chambers of the legislature. Standing on Republic Square, near monuments and cultural venues, the building is a focal point of political life and a distinctive example of postwar public architecture.
