Bucharest's Arch of Triumph rises on a broad roundabout in the north of the city, commemorating Romania's victory and unification after the First World War. The current granite structure, completed in 1936, replaced earlier wooden and plaster arches erected for military parades. Sculpted reliefs and inscriptions by leading Romanian artists decorate its faces, and an internal staircase leads to a viewing terrace opened on special occasions. National Day parades still pass beneath it, keeping alive its role as a patriotic landmark.
