The largest park in central Bucharest wraps around Herăstrău Lake in the northern part of the city and is officially named King Michael I Park. Laid out in the 1930s, it offers long lakeside promenades, rowing boats, an island, and shaded alleys popular with joggers and families. The open-air Village Museum occupies part of its grounds, adding traditional houses to the greenery. Cafes and terraces line the water, and a bust-lined Alley of Caryatids leads toward the main entrance near Charles de Gaulle Square.
