The Church of Our Saviour in Copenhagen's Christianshavn district is a Baroque church best known for its extraordinary corkscrew spire, whose external staircase winds up to a golden globe and figure. Completed in stages from the seventeenth century, the church holds a richly carved altar and a grand organ front supported by sculpted elephants. Climbing the outer stairs of the spire brings visitors to a dizzying viewpoint over the city and harbour. The twisting tower has become one of the most recognisable silhouettes on the Copenhagen skyline.
