Sergels torg is a major public square in central Stockholm laid out in the mid-twentieth century as part of a sweeping modernist redevelopment. Its most recognisable features are a sunken pedestrian plaza patterned with a triangular design and a tall glass obelisk that lights up at night. Surrounded by government buildings, a cultural centre and shopping streets, the square has long been the setting for demonstrations, celebrations and public gatherings.
