The Musegg Wall is the best-preserved stretch of Lucerne's medieval fortifications, running along a ridge above the old town with nine towers still standing. Built in the fourteenth century, several of the towers can be climbed in summer for views over the tiled roofs, the lake and the mountains beyond. One holds the oldest working tower clock in the city, whose bell strikes a minute before all the others. A walkway along the ramparts links the towers, offering a quiet route above the bustle of the streets below.
