This Renaissance-style Protestant church beside the Prinsengracht canal was completed in 1631 and remains one of Amsterdam's defining silhouettes. Its tower, the Westertoren, rises to roughly 85 metres and is crowned with a replica of the imperial crown of Maximilian I, making it the tallest church tower in the city. Rembrandt is believed to be buried somewhere within, though the exact grave is unknown. Visitors can climb the tower for canal-ring views, while the surrounding Jordaan district offers cafes and small shops beneath the bells.
