Fulham Palace beside the Thames was for over a thousand years the country residence of the Bishops of London, though the surviving buildings span the Tudor to the Georgian era. The mellow brick courtyard, chapel and historic rooms reflect centuries of ecclesiastical use, while a small museum tells the story of the bishops and estate. Its walled kitchen garden was once famous for rare trees introduced from around the world. Surrounded by restored gardens and parkland, it offers a quiet historic enclave in west London.
