The Design Museum, relocated to Kensington in 2016, is devoted to contemporary and historic design across fashion, product, graphic, industrial and architectural fields. It occupies the dramatically remodelled former Commonwealth Institute building, whose sweeping hyperbolic paraboloid roof of copper and concrete is a listed masterpiece of 1960s architecture. Inside, a soaring atrium leads to galleries mixing a free permanent display with major temporary exhibitions, championing design as a shaper of daily life.
