Poznań's Old Market Square was comprehensively rebuilt in the postwar period following wartime destruction, faithfully recreating the Renaissance and baroque facades of the burgher houses that once dominated its arcaded frontage. At noon daily, two mechanical goats emerge from the clock tower of the Renaissance town hall and butt heads — a tradition tied to a 16th-century legend about the building's clock-maker. The square lies at the historical centre of the oldest established city in Poland.
