The Imperial Castle in Poznań is a monumental early-20th-century residence built for the German emperor Wilhelm II when the city was under Prussian rule, one of the last castles erected in Europe. Its heavy Romanesque revival architecture, thick stone walls and tall tower were meant to project imperial authority over the region. Later adapted under changing regimes, including a wartime redesign, it now serves as a cultural centre with cinemas, galleries and a café.
