A crowded old market district in southern Mumbai, this bazaar grew in the colonial era as a hub of wholesale and retail trade in the densely populated heart of the city. Its narrow lanes are packed with shops selling hardware, electronics, secondhand goods, furniture, spices and food, alongside eateries famed for kebabs and sweets, especially during Ramadan. The tightly built streetscape reflects the layered history of trade and migration that shaped the port city. It remains a vivid, congested commercial quarter.
