The Orman Botanical Garden is a historic garden in the Giza district of greater Cairo, established in the 1870s as part of the grounds of a royal palace. Its name, meaning forest, reflects the ambition of its planting, and it still shelters a rich collection of trees, palms, cacti and exotic species arranged across shaded avenues. A rose garden and lily pond add ornamental interest, and it hosts an annual spring flower show. As one of the country's oldest botanical collections, it keeps a quiet, scholarly air.
