The Bosque El Olivar is a historic olive grove and park in the San Isidro district of Lima, descended from trees first planted in the sixteenth century by Spanish colonists. Many of the ancient, gnarled olive trees survive, some centuries old, shading lawns and winding paths through the residential neighbourhood. A small lake, a chapel and benches make it a tranquil retreat within the busy financial district. The grove is protected as a national monument for its cultural and historical value.
