The Ngahtatgyi Buddha Temple in Yangon houses an enormous seated Buddha image, its name meaning the five-storey Buddha in reference to its towering height. The serene figure sits beneath a carved and gilded wooden backdrop of exceptional craftsmanship, its ornate halo of flames and floral motifs among the finest of its kind. Reached by a covered stairway close to the Chaukhtatgyi reclining Buddha, it is often visited together with its neighbour. The temple offers a quiet, intimate setting for admiring a monumental image and its wooden surround.
