This graceful stupa in the former capital stands close to the great golden pagoda and is connected to it by a pedestrian bridge over the road. Built in the 1980s, it is admired for its elegant proportions and for an interior that visitors can enter, where the domed ceiling is painted with a scene of the heavens and constellations. The gilded exterior and surrounding terrace offer fine views toward its more famous neighbour, and though newer than many monuments, it is a serene and often quieter place of worship.

Where next?

The world is wide open.
