Situated on a hillside near the reclining Buddha temple in the former capital, this shrine houses a colossal seated Buddha image sheltered within a multi-tiered pavilion. The figure, several storeys high, is richly gilded and set against an ornately carved and decorated wooden backdrop that frames the serene face. Pilgrims climb covered stairways lined with stalls to reach the hall, where the sheer scale makes a powerful impression, and it is often visited together with its reclining counterpart nearby.
