The monumental home of Argentina's national congress closes the western end of the Avenida de Mayo in Buenos Aires. Completed in stages in the early twentieth century, its greened bronze dome rises above a facade of columns, allegorical sculpture and a grand central portico in an academic Greco-Roman manner. Inside, richly decorated chambers seat the deputies and senators beneath ornate ceilings. A large plaza with fountains and monuments spreads before the entrance toward the presidential palace.
