This imposing law-court building in central Buenos Aires houses Argentina's Supreme Court and gives its name, Tribunales, to the surrounding neighbourhood. Built in a severe neoclassical style through the early twentieth century, its heavy stone facade, colonnades and allegorical figures of justice front a busy plaza near the Colón opera house. Long corridors and skylit halls organise the many courtrooms within. Its monumental presence has made it a natural gathering point for demonstrations and legal history.
