Sándor Palace stands on Buda Castle Hill and serves as the official residence and office of the President of Hungary. Built in the early nineteenth century in a neoclassical style, it faces the funicular station and the castle's ceremonial forecourt. Damaged in the Second World War and later carefully restored, it reopened as the presidential seat in the early twenty-first century. The changing of the guard takes place before its columned facade at regular intervals, and its prominent position makes it a familiar sight on the castle plateau.
