Rockbund Art Museum

Occupying a restored Art Deco building just behind the Bund, this contemporary-art museum stages ambitious exhibitions of Chinese and international artists. The 1930s structure, once home to a learned society, retains ornate terracotta detailing while its interior serves as flexible gallery space over several compact floors. The museum has no permanent collection, focusing instead on commissioned and touring shows. Its position amid the historic waterfront architecture makes it a landmark of Shanghai's revived cultural quarter.
