Former Residence of Mei Lanfang

A preserved courtyard house in the western old city that was the home of the most celebrated Peking opera performer of the twentieth century. The traditional four-sided residence displays his living rooms, costumes, photographs, stage props, and gifts received during a long international career. Exhibits trace his artistry in female roles and his part in bringing Chinese opera to wider audiences abroad. The intimate compound offers both a look at classic courtyard architecture and an introduction to a defining figure of the arts.
