A 1.5-kilometre waterfront promenade facing the Huangpu River, the Bund is lined with colonial-era neoclassical and Art Deco banking houses constructed between the 1870s and 1930s. The ensemble represents the commercial architecture of the International Settlement and faces directly across to the Pudong skyline. The pedestrian esplanade is at its most dramatic at dusk when both the heritage facades and the opposite towers are illuminated.
