Amos Rex

An art museum in central Helsinki known for its striking underground galleries beneath a public square. The subterranean spaces rise into gentle domes that surface as mounds in the plaza above, punctured by round skylights. The museum stages ambitious exhibitions of contemporary and modern art, often immersive and digital in character. It occupies and extends the functionalist Lasipalatsi building from the 1930s. The design allows large-scale installations while preserving the historic structure at street level.
