Perched in the Wellington Botanic Garden near the cable car terminus, this observatory and planetarium presents the astronomy of the southern sky, blending traditional star lore with modern science. Interactive exhibits, a full-dome planetarium and historic telescopes explore the stars, the exploration of the Pacific by navigation, and space science. Once the national observatory, it now operates as a public space-science centre. Its hilltop location complements the adjacent lookout over the city.
