This paved public square forms the civic and cultural heart of the capital, bordered by the town hall, central library, city gallery and council offices. A suspended silver fern sphere by artist Neil Dawson floats above the space, and a sculptural City to Sea Bridge links the square to the waterfront. The area hosts markets, performances and public gatherings, though some surrounding buildings have faced closures for earthquake strengthening. Its combination of public art and civic architecture makes it a focal point of central Wellington.
