This historic homestead and public garden beside the Avon River preserves an Edwardian mansion set within manicured lawns, rose gardens, a fernery and mature trees. Built in the early twentieth century, the estate was later saved from development and opened to the public as a heritage park. Visitors stroll the riverside grounds, take afternoon tea in the homestead, or hire punts on the adjacent river. The elegant house and gardens exemplify the genteel character that earned Christchurch its Garden City reputation.
