This lavishly decorated 1929 cinema and theatre is one of the finest surviving atmospheric picture palaces in the world, designed to evoke an exotic outdoor setting. Its auditorium ceiling is painted as a night sky studded with twinkling stars, while an Indian and Moorish fantasy of turrets, elephants and carved figures adorns the interior. Restored to its original splendour, it now hosts touring musicals, film festivals and live performances. The building anchors the city's Queen Street entertainment district.
