Known by its acronym MALI, this fine arts museum occupies the Palacio de la Exposición, a nineteenth-century exhibition hall in the Parque de la Exposición. Its collection spans three thousand years of Peruvian art, from pre-Columbian ceramics and colonial religious painting to republican portraiture and contemporary works. The iron-and-glass building was designed for the 1872 exposition and later restored as a cultural venue. Rotating international exhibitions, film screenings and art workshops make it a hub of Lima's cultural life.
