The Church of the Veracruz is one of Medellín's oldest surviving churches, with origins in the eighteenth century and a simple whitewashed colonial façade near the city centre. It stands on a small plaza that once lay at the edge of the early settlement and served the poorer inhabitants of the growing town. The single-nave interior preserves colonial religious imagery and a calm atmosphere amid the surrounding commercial bustle. Its modest scale contrasts with the enormous brick cathedral a few blocks away.
