The Marine Building is an Art Deco skyscraper in downtown Vancouver, completed in 1930 and long considered one of the finest examples of the style in North America. Its terracotta façade is richly ornamented with maritime and transport motifs, seahorses, ships, crabs and aircraft, celebrating the city as a Pacific gateway. The lavish lobby glitters with brass, coloured tile and stained glass evoking an undersea world. Once the tallest building in the British Empire, it remains a beloved architectural showpiece.
