This memorial marks the site of the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, which killed 168 people in one of the deadliest attacks on American soil. A reflecting pool lies between two bronze gates inscribed with the moments before and after the blast, flanked by a field of empty chairs, one for each victim, arranged by the floor where they died. A surviving American elm, the Survivor Tree, stands nearby. The adjoining museum recounts the event, the rescue, and its aftermath.
