Oklahoma's capitol in Oklahoma City is unusual for standing atop a working oil field, with a historic derrick nicknamed Petunia No. 1 drilled directly on the grounds. Completed in 1917 in a Neoclassical style, the building went without its intended dome for nearly a century until one was finally added in 2002, topped by a statue of a Native American figure called The Guardian. Interior corridors display art celebrating the state's history and peoples. The blend of statehouse, oil heritage, and belated dome makes it distinctive.
