This memorial near the National Mall honors the general and president Dwight D. Eisenhower, completed in 2020 to a design by architect Frank Gehry. Its defining feature is a vast woven stainless-steel tapestry depicting the cliffs of Normandy, suspended between tall columns to form a backdrop for bronze sculptures. The statues portray Eisenhower as a young man from Kansas, as the supreme allied commander, and as president. Carved quotations and relief scenes trace his roles in war and peace across the memorial's plaza.
