This slender headland west of Algiers is best known as the landing point of the French expedition in 1830, an event that opened the colonial period in Algeria. Today the peninsula is a resort area with marinas, beaches and a seaside promenade backed by pine woods. Pleasure boats fill the harbour, and the sandy shore draws summer crowds from the capital. The mix of historic significance and relaxed coastal leisure makes the spot a popular weekend destination and a notable landmark on the shoreline near Algiers.
