Museum of Modern Art of Algiers

Housed in a former colonial-era department store on Rue Larbi Ben M'hidi, this museum devoted to modern and contemporary art occupies one of the finest commercial buildings in central Algiers. Its restored iron-and-glass interior, arranged around a luminous central atrium, provides gallery space for Algerian and international artists. Since opening in the 2000s it has become a focus of the capital's contemporary art scene, hosting rotating exhibitions. The building itself, with its Art Nouveau flourishes, is part of the appeal.
