Tangier Ville is the main railway station of Tangier, opened in 2003 to the east of the city centre and later upgraded as the northern terminus of Morocco's high-speed line. Its architecture reinterprets traditional Moroccan forms, with arched openings, tilework and a landmark clock tower fronting a broad concourse. From here the Al Boraq high-speed trains, the first in Africa, connect Tangier to Rabat and Casablanca in a few hours. Combining a gateway function with a distinctive design, it symbolises the city's modernisation.
