This small seventeenth-century mosque in the Üsküdar district is prized for the brilliant İznik tiles that sheath its interior, giving it the name tiled mosque. Commissioned by Kösem Sultan, one of the most powerful queen mothers of the Ottoman court, it forms part of a modest complex with a school and fountain. The compact prayer hall is covered floor to gallery in blue, green and white ceramic panels of exceptional quality. Though little visited, it rewards those who seek it out with some of the finest domestic-scale Ottoman tilework.
