This diminutive mosque sits directly on the Bosphorus shore at Üsküdar, one of the smallest works of the great architect Mimar Sinan, completed around 1580 for the vizier Şemsi Pasha. Its charm lies in perfect proportions and a waterside setting, with the founder's tomb attached to the prayer hall and a small medrese framing a courtyard open to the strait. Because its position seems to repel seabirds, local lore nicknamed it the mosque where the gulls do not land. The intimate scale and lapping water make it a beloved miniature.
