This surviving pavilion on the Golden Horn is the last remnant of a once-extensive Ottoman palace complex dating in part to the seventeenth century. Reshaped under Sultan Selim III in the late eighteenth century, it is noted for refined interior woodwork, painted ceilings and long windows overlooking the inlet. The pavilion is associated with the sultan's interest in classical Turkish music, and it today houses a collection of traditional musical instruments. Its quiet garden setting preserves the feel of an intimate courtly retreat.
