The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is the leading art museum in the city and one of the most important in the country, occupying a campus in the cultural quarter near the opera and theatre. Its collection spans classic and modern European painting, Israeli art, photography, design, and architecture, and is especially strong in early-20th-century works. A dramatic contemporary wing, with sharply angled walls enclosing a light-filled atrium, was added in recent years, beside the main performing arts complex.
