Cavenagh Bridge is the oldest bridge across the Singapore River still in its original form, a graceful suspension structure of imported ironwork opened in 1870. Built to connect the commercial and government districts, it now serves only pedestrians, its old police sign still forbidding heavy carts and cattle. The span links the Fullerton waterfront with the museum-lined north bank and offers fine views along the river. Its delicate cast-iron detailing makes it a favourite of photographers and a relic of the colonial city.
