Merlion Park occupies a waterfront plaza at the mouth of the Singapore River where it opens into Marina Bay, and is centred on the eight-metre Merlion statue — a hybrid creature with a lion's head and a fish's body that has served as Singapore's tourism symbol since 1972. The park is positioned directly across the bay from Marina Bay Sands and offers one of the most viewed compositions in Singapore's visual landscape. The One Fullerton promontory to the south provides an alternative angle that frames both the Merlion and the towers of the financial district.
