This landmark roundabout in the modern Jaipur district of C-Scheme centres on a white marble statue of the city's 18th-century founder, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, holding an astronomical instrument. Landscaped lawns and an illuminated fountain surround the monument, which has become a popular evening gathering spot with food stalls nearby. The statue commemorates the ruler's role as an astronomer and city planner who laid out Jaipur on a grid. Floodlit after dark, the circle is a familiar node in the newer part of the city.
