Once a vast garden palace built by the last Nawab of Awadh in the 1850s, this complex was among the grandest in Lucknow before parts were destroyed after the 1857 uprising. Surviving gateways, pavilions and the Baradari now shelter within a quadrangle ringed by later buildings. Ornate stucco, mermaid emblems and arched screens hint at its former opulence. Restoration efforts and cultural events have revived interest in the precinct, which offers a poignant sense of the Awadhi court on the eve of its fall.
