Rising within the University of Mumbai's Fort campus, this ornate tower was modelled loosely on London's Big Ben and completed in the 1870s. Built in Kurla stone with Venetian and Gothic detailing, it climbs roughly 85 metres and once chimed melodies across the maidan. The tower is part of the Victorian Gothic ensemble along the seafront and overlooks the green expanse of the Oval Maidan. Visitors typically view it from outside, admiring the carved figures, stained glass and the way its bells long regulated the rhythm of colonial Bombay.
