Nakajima Park is a large green expanse just south of central Sapporo, laid out around ponds and lawns and framed by mature trees. Within its grounds stand a historic guest house built for touring dignitaries and a preserved tea pavilion, both survivors of earlier eras that add cultural interest to the greenery. Rowboats ply the central pond in warm months, while autumn brings fiery foliage and winter blankets the paths in snow. A concert hall and observatory nearby make the park a hub of leisure and culture near the busy heart of the city.
