Moiwa is a forested peak on the southwestern edge of Sapporo, easily reached by a cable car and mini cable car that carry visitors to a summit observation deck. From the top, the whole grid of the city spreads out toward the sea, and the panorama is especially prized after dark, when Sapporo's lights are counted among Japan's celebrated night views. A small planetarium and a hilltop bell add to the summit's appeal, and hiking trails climb the slopes for those preferring to reach the top on foot through the woods.
