The Sapporo TV Tower rises at the eastern end of the long Odori Park corridor that bisects the city center, and its observation deck offers a straight view along the tree-lined promenade toward the mountains. Completed in 1957 and painted a warm red, it became an early symbol of the growing city and remains a favorite orientation point. From the deck visitors overlook seasonal events staged below, from summer beer gardens to the famous winter snow festival, whose great ice sculptures line the corridor within full view of the tower.
